I would like to introduce Alana Clarke. I had the privilege to meet Alana at the 2025 WNBFSASKATCHEWAN show as an athlete for the New YOU category, what caught my attention was not only her story, but she also competed in 4 more catagories, while winning the New YOU category, and placing in 4 other categories, proving that if you have goals, go pursue them! Her story is inspiring and remarkable. Please enjoy.
For me, 2023 marked a turning point—a year when exhaustion and unhappiness took hold, and I struggled with binge eating, alcohol, and depression. Years of medication barely kept me going, and the lingering trauma from leaving an abusive relationship in 2002, while raising six children, left me feeling trapped and broken.
Change began quietly: I started walking, using movement to lift the weight of despair. Gradually, I added strength training, hired a coach, and learned to nourish myself with intention. Every small step became an act of self-respect, and I set a bold goal: to compete on a bodybuilding stage.
The transformation was slow but powerful. I lost over 70 pounds, gained strength and confidence, and at 55, stepped onto the stage for my first bodybuilding competition—a celebration of effort and survival. Now, at 56, I am medication-free, clear-minded, and strong, continuously setting new goals that nurture both body and spirit.
Along the way, I learned:
• Small changes, done consistently, create lasting transformation.
• Seeking help is a sign of strength; support brings encouragement and wisdom.
• Physical and mental health are deeply connected—building one supports the other.
• It's never too late to pursue a dream; age is not a barrier to change.
My journey is proof that life can be rebuilt. I no longer numb my pain; instead, I honor the lessons it brought. My children now see not only a survivor, but someone who turned struggle into strength and despair into hope.
