Hailey, is a testament of battling through your struggles and coming out on top as a winner.

We hope that her story inspires you.  Enjoy!

My name is Hailey Mazubert, I’m 18 years old, from Okotoks, Alberta.

My story begins in September, 2018. At the age of 12, I told my parents I was going to be a Vegetarian disguised under of my love for animals, however as time passed, the real reason of this change became clear and the reality of my situation became life-threatening.

Although it began with just meat, I slowly began cutting out other food groups as well.
I was rapidly losing weight, along with a huge part of my childhood.

In February, 2019, I was diagnosed with Restrictive Anorexia Nervousa. Between the months of November-February I lost over 35lbs. At my lowest, I was eating 13.5 calories a day, had a mandatory exercise routine every morning and night, and I had dropped 15lbs in just a week.
Eventually, I had become so ill that I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The doctors told us that my heart was on the verge of giving up, and if I didn’t get the help I needed, I would be knocking on death’s door.
I started the Recovery program with the Alberta Children’s hospital Eating disorder clinic. I spent a few weeks as an inpatient with the program before being allowed to go home and continue as an outpatient. I was forced the eat the required amount for someone of my age and weight.

The road to recovery was painful beyond belief, but over time, I returned to a healthy weight and managed to take back some control over my mind.
After 3 years in the program, I was at a point to make responsible decisions for myself without the anorexia influence.

Throughout my years of Junior high and high school, various comments about my weight were made by others which worsened my insecurities. In August, 2022, I asked my brother to take me to the gym in an attempt to improve my body image and self esteem; however, I didn’t become consistent until March, 2023, when the gym quickly became an outlet for me, completely changing my mindset and improving my confidence.

In May, 2024, I began training under Trina Hampton as I worked towards my first powerlifting competition with the WRPF. I hit the platform in the following September, earning 2 national records for my lifts. I competed in 2 more WRPF competitions, beating my own records, setting the bar higher for myself. I felt empowered by my strength, both mental and physical, allowing my passion and confidence to skyrocket.

I was inspired into Bodybuilding by my uncle, Tom Malin, as he used to compete. Seeing his past dedication for bodybuilding motivated me throughout my prep.

Along this journey, I have learned so much about myself and what I am capable of achieving. I continued to put in the work despite being exhausted, overwhelmed, or unmotivated. I have overcome my fear of food and throughout prep I have learned that food is fuel, not the enemy.

With my story, I am defeating the stigmatism around bodybuilding and educating people who believe that the sport revolves around starvation and unhealthy habits. I am so grateful to have overcome my struggles and have the ability to be who I am today because of them.
