I would like to introduce you to Liz Loney. I met Liz around Feb/24 while she was the managing director at Goodlife Fitness (Women's Only) at Country Hills, while speaking with Liz, you can feel her passion for this industry and her commitment to helping others, even moving out west from Ontario to stay in the industry. Liz has been a Personal trainer for many years and her story explains why she loves it so much!
My story started when I fell in love with playing soccer. I was a goalie for many years that led to many injuries which, unfortunately, led to many surgeries. This is where it started. I needed a job to help pay for physiotherapy. A good friend, Diana, gave me a break cleaning at a local YMCA. I could barely walk up the stairs to the gym at the time but I was determined to get back playing. As I was cleaning, I kept seeing this one team member, Laura, showing and telling someone else what to do in the gym. It peaked my curiosity and what started me on the path of becoming a certified Personal Trainer (PT), Fitness Instructor and a Healthy Eating & Weight Loss Coach. Working in the fitness industry in many roles, has been very rewarding - you meet so many different people with a variety of experiences, goals, and stories, and the best part is seeing people achieve things they did not think they could.

Fitness is a forever changing industry that will challenge you, allow you to continually grow, learn, and allow you to meet amazing humans. One of the biggest reminders to anyone thinking about this industry is to stay humble. We have so much knowledge, so much we want to share and do, but we also need to remember to meet people where they are on that day. PT can be exhausting too from varying schedules, constant learning, building programs, adjusting programs, finding new clients and of course staying on top of paperwork. BUT, that is all pushed aside when you see your client's face on a check in day or they hit a new PR or they tell you a story of a task they couldn't do previously, and they can now. This is why you get into the fitness industry.
