Allyssa Burg - 2024 WNBF Winnipeg New You Transformation Athlete

I would like to introduce you to Alyssa Burg. Alyssa has lost an incredible 95lbs since January 2022, but it wasn't until her "Ah-Ha" moment that led her to focus more on her health and in doing so, she has competed for the first time in a bodybuilding competition in the New You Transformation category.

Enjoy Alyssa' story. :)

I've had a life long battle with my weight. I struggled with proper nutrition in my teen years, to binge
eating in my twenties. After getting married in 2015, I faced fertility issues and with the treatments
came even more weight gain. Fast forward to the fall of 2021, I had just finished doing a 1km run /
walk with my 2 year old and a family member had taken a photo of us crossing the finish line. My
first and only thought when I saw the photo was, "wow I look huge". That was my "Ah-Ha" moment.

I reached out to my coach April in December of 2021, she gladly took me on as a client and from
there we went to work. My starting weight was 248lbs. After four months of working together, I had
my physical done, that's when I got hit with the bad news. Due to the severity of my PCOS, not only
was having another kid going to be an uphill battle, but my hormonal imbalance, made my body
insulin resistant, much like a type 2 diabetic. My blood work also came back with high cholesterol
and an elevated A1C. This was 2022, which was the 20th anniversary of my father's heart attack -
getting my blood work back and seeing the signs that I was going down the same road as my father,
scared me!

Although I was already in the process of making the dietary changes, this solidified that this isn't a short-term goal, this must be a lifestyle change. I started looking at food differently, I started prioritizing my proteins and vegetables. My main thing was, that I never wanted my daughter to be eating a different meal then me, so we started cooking healthy meals together. Even to today, we make my lunch and her snacks together. I started taking on mini fitness challenges, such as running 1 km a week, and then eventually I challenged myself to a 5km run every month in 2023.

I am a completely different person than I was 2 years ago, I have a different mind set when it comes to food and fitness. I am grateful for my friends and family for their support, my coach, my husband, and of course my daughter Chloe who has given me the motivation for a better life.
