I would like to introduce you to Martin Gh. Martin is a self-trained athlete who competed at the WNBF Vancouver show in both Men's Physique and the New YOU Transformation categories. Martin went from being underweight at 139 lbs in 2020 to gaining 40 lbs of muscle, stepping on stage at 175 lbs in 2023. He is a true believer in hard work, and the results will pay off.
You went from 139 up to 179 lbs of muscle. How long did it take you to gain weight?
It took dedication and persistence to transform my body. In the first year, I went from 139 lbs to 160 lbs, and then I worked hard for another 9 months to reach 179 lbs. As the show approached, I pushed myself even further, hitting 190 lbs and then cutting down to a lean 175 lbs on stage. This journey taught me that with consistent effort, amazing transformations are possible.
- You did do most of it or all of this training without a coach? How many days a week were you training, and what did it mostly consist of?
I embarked on this incredible journey without a coach by my side. I relied on the power of self-belief and my passion for fitness. Starting with 5 days a week, I poured my heart into every workout session. My training routine incorporated a mix of cardio, weight training, bodyweight exercises, and even swimming. Every 4 weeks, I challenged myself with a new program to keep the momentum going and constantly push my limits.
- What was your diet like to gain that weight? How many times a day were you eating?
To achieve my weight gain goals, I completely revamped my diet. I realized that clean and nourishing food was the key to fueling my body for growth. I bid farewell to fast food, reduced my sugar intake, and eliminated soda from my life. It became a passion to nourish myself with wholesome meals. At times, I was consuming 5 meals a day, including 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 1 dinner. Nowadays, I've transitioned to 3 balanced meals a day, allowing me to maintain the incredible progress I've made.
- What was it that made you decide to transform your body?
From a young age, I aspired to be an influencer and make a positive impact on my community. I realized that to be seen and heard, I needed to undergo a profound transformation. My journey was not just about changing my physical appearance; it was about proving to myself and others that true change can be achieved naturally, without the need for external hormones or shortcuts. I wanted to inspire others to believe in their potential for transformation and show them the incredible power of determination and self-belief.
- When you started your fitness journey, did you think it would lead to bodybuilding?
It's amusing to reflect on this now, but when I first embarked on my fitness journey, the idea of bodybuilding never crossed my mind. I used to harbor some reservations about the tanned and muscular look of athletes on stage. However, as I progressed on my transformative path, my perspective shifted completely. I developed a deep appreciation for the art of bodybuilding and now eagerly anticipate the day when I can step on stage with a dark, shiny tan, proudly showcasing the results of my hard work and dedication.
