- Congratulations on competing in Back to Back WNBF Shows. How did you feel after and were you pleased with the results?
Thank you! It was the first time I had ever done back - to-back comps & peak weeks so it was a new experience for sure! My main goals going into this season were to show people that prep doesn't have to take over your life, and also to try and re-earn my Pro card, and I achieved both of these goals so I am stoked! I am now a few weeks post comp and I feel amazing!
- You also compete in CrossFit and practice yoga, can you tell me more?
YES! I teach yoga 3-4 times a week, as well as attending classes myself 2-3 times a week. I started practicing in 2019, and yoga has now become an essential part of my routine, and also a compliment to all the time I spend in the gym. As for CrossFit, I started this in 2018 and it has formed the bulk of my training ever since! Now I am doing CrossFit 6 days a week as I am preparing for a CrossFit comp at the end of the month!
I had to adjust my caloric intake very quickly post bodybuilding comps as a meal plan to lean out for bodybuilding, would not sustain my training or recovery for a CrossFit comp.
- What advice will you give someone looking to compete for the first time?
Go deep into you WHY behind wanting to compete. Competing for any sport (not just bodybuilding and CrossFit) requires a serious investment of time, energy and also money. So it's important to make sure that you are competing for the right reasons. Finding your WHY will also help you find the motivation to stick to your goal, should you decide to compete.
- Is there a process for Post-Competition dieting?
To be honest, this is different for every athlete. I started training for a CrossFit comp just a few days after my second bodybuilding comp, so how I have been eating post comp this time has been very different to previous times. There are so many factors to consider...how you "dieted" for prep, post show goals and how you have come out of shows previously are just some of the things to consider.
- You are also a personal trainer... What made you get into training and what is your specialty?
YES! I have been a CPT for over 10 years! I am also a Group Fitness Instructor, CrossFit Coach, Body Image Coach, and Eating Psychology Coach.
I discovered the gym in my 20's but it wasn't until my early 30's that I started lifting weights seriously. This then led me to getting certified as a PT, which had led me to where I am today.
As for my specialty, I would have to say that my specialty is actually teaching/coaching classes! I teach an average of 15 a week, ranging from yoga, strength classes to boot-camp style classes and CrossFit!
- When training your clients, what is the one key advice that you give them?
I like to call upon the 4th agreement from Don Miguel Ruiz's book..."always do your best"
- What are your go to fitness apparel items?
From the I Am Fitness brand, the Encourage sports bra, Energy sports bra and the Flex Ombre seamless leggings!
And I also LOVE my ball cap with the pink logo!
